I too struggled to find online literacy activities when my children were young. Have you seen http://www.wizz-e.com where the magic of books comes to life. We publish interactive digital books for young children to foster a love of reading by making it fun. The books are narrated and the words highlight to help children model fluency as well as increase word/sound recognition. The illustrations are animated to engage even the most reluctant reader. Independent readers can read to themselves and click on unfamiliar words to hear them spoken. A comprehension quiz ensures understanding.Jeanettehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10743608709826871165noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4573839292964961426.post-18160850015640647422009-10-05T14:17:55.465-07:002009-10-05T14:17:55.465-07:00Are you familiar with the Scholastic book series T...Are you familiar with the Scholastic book series The 39 Clues? http://www.the39clues.com This series ties together the novel with clue cards and and online interface.cnansenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15632347136116233161noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4573839292964961426.post-72038766937282944982009-10-05T12:06:21.623-07:002009-10-05T12:06:21.623-07:00You raise several valid points. Being an 8th grade literacy teacher and an avid lover of technology and its potential, I often struggle to push the kids to use media in ways beyond "creation" and what I call the "coolness factor". Sure, most learners embrace and use technology readily. I find that solid professional development is needed to push this love beyond just something fun and interesting for the kids to do.Dr. Tracy Edwardshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16635532260283060019noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4573839292964961426.post-32679783980480136312009-10-05T11:55:53.902-07:002009-10-05T11:55:53.902-07:00I'm sure digital media played a huge role in m...I'm sure digital media played a huge role in my own daughter's reading, she is 6, identified as gifted and talented in literacy by her school and has used my laptop unaided since she was about 3. She learned to type her name so she could logon before she could ever write it and when it came to writing she copied the letters from the keyboard. None of the websites she loves are educational in a traditional way but I do think it all helps.Sarahhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05518193630352273096noreply@blogger.com
